The Cartographic Map is a woven collage that speaks to the duality of the symbolic representation of the City of Detroit, but it’s historic role in automobile infrastructure and industrialization.

This monochrome woven flag was designed for the TC2 Digital Jacquard Loom, using generated bitmaps to merge the flag of the City of Detroit against Campus Martius Park, Detroit’s “point of origin”. Detroit was rebuilt around this point after the fire of 1805,  featured in the center of the flag.
